Europe's Electric Boat Market in Numbers: The 2026 Report

How many electric boat builders does Europe have, who leads, what do boats cost, and what do builders not publish? 256 models from 126 verified builders, counted one by one.

Updated 31 August 2026. The figures are recomputed from the live catalogue on each edition; this URL is permanent and the report is refreshed in place.

Most writing about electric boats runs on press releases. This report runs on a catalogue: every builder verified against its own site and, where possible, a company register; every model counted one by one; every missing figure left missing rather than estimated.

The 2026 headline numbers:

  • 256 electric and hybrid-electric models, from 126 verified builders, across 25 countries
  • 186 boats under 28 feet (8.53 m) and 71 larger yachts — the median boat is just 7.0 m
  • 242 pure electric, 14 hybrid-electric; the extremes run from a 2.5 m lounge boat to a 72 m superyacht
  • Median price €97,000 — but only 41% publish a price at all

How many electric boat builders are there in Europe?

126 verified builders have electric or hybrid-electric models in current production — builders in the strict sense: companies confirmed as the actual yard, not dealers, importers or rebadgers. They are headquartered in 25 countries, 21 of them European.

Builder country Builders Models
Netherlands 17 46
Austria 7 28
Italy 11 23
Poland 8 23
Germany 10 19
France 11 18
United States 10 12
Hungary 4 11
Sweden 6 10
United Kingdom 7 10
Finland 7 9

The Netherlands builds more electric models than any other country on earth — nearly one in five electric boats on the European market is Dutch, a direct product of the sloep culture and a canal network where quiet, licence-free electric boating is the norm rather than the novelty. Austria is the surprise runner-up: seven Alpine-lake builders producing 28 models, shaped by decades of combustion bans on lakes like the Wörthersee. And Poland has quietly become the volume workshop of the market, with eight builders and 23 models led by its solar-electric specialists. The full list is in the manufacturer catalogue.

What does an electric boat cost?

Among the models that publish a price — and only 105 of 256 do — the median starting price is €97,000. The floor is €14,990 for a small Finnish electric catamaran; the ceiling is price-on-application superyacht territory. Prices here are builders' own EUR figures, never silently converted from another currency.

What is the average battery, motor, speed and range?

Across the models that publish each figure:

  • Median battery capacity: 42.2 kWh — between a large EV and a small truck
  • Median motor: 30 kW — silence, not speed, is what most of the market sells
  • Median top speed: 23.5 knots among boats that quote one — the fast minority skews this well above the typical 5-8 knot cruise
  • Median range: 59 nautical miles

What do builders not publish?

The most revealing statistic in the catalogue is what is missing from it. Of the 256 models on the market:

  • only 52% publish a battery capacity (133 of 256)
  • only 41% publish a price (105 of 256)
  • only 40% publish a top speed in knots (103 — many publish km/h only)
  • only 27% publish a range in nautical miles (69 — endurance is usually given in hours, if at all)

A buyer comparing electric boats is, half the time, comparing blanks. This is not a flaw of the catalogue — it is the state of the industry: a young market where spec sheets have not yet caught up with the engineering. Where a figure is not published, this catalogue leaves the field empty rather than estimating — which is exactly why the gaps are visible.

Which electric boats win awards?

Independent juries noticed the market before the mainstream did: the catalogue records 126 verified awards across 73 models, from 15 distinct juries — from the Gustave Trouvé Awards for electric boats to European Powerboat of the Year and design juries like iF. Every award carries a link to the jury's own announcement; a claim without a source is not data.

Method, honestly

The figures on this page are computed from the live catalogue as of 31 August 2026. What is counted: builders confirmed as actual boatbuilding companies (via their own legal notices and national company registers — not marketplaces or press), with at least one electric or hybrid-electric model in current production. What is never done: filling a missing specification with a plausible estimate, converting a price silently between currencies, or counting a brand whose builder cannot be established. The dataset grows continuously as new builders are verified; the numbers here are a snapshot, dated deliberately.
